About Us Sistas in Business, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 organization. A powerful business resource for African American women through training and networking Coast to Coast. We are embarking upon our third year existence and we’re very excited about it! Our Third Annual Founders Day events will be held August 22, 2008 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the beautiful facilities at Sunset Station in San Antonio, Texas. This year’s theme is “Elevating to the Next Level.” The day will begin from 8:00 am to 10:15 am with Café SBA and business roundtable that will be serving up information for business startups and business expansion; marketing and web development; express loans and more…then beginning at 10:15 am through 11:15 am peruse the goods and services that our vendors have to offer. Starting at 11:30 am sharp, we will have our ceremonial founders day luncheon, which will include a fashion show hosted by Sistas in Business member business owners and our keynote speaker is Houston-based author and financial analyst – Marilyn Logan; affectionately called the money lady. Our strength and power together is having a significant impact on the San Antonio business community. As we grow, we learn how to better work together and practice the true bonds of Sistahood. We have members that range from sistas thinking about going into business, start-ups to very affluent business owners. We all agree that we have very specific needs that only we can fulfill together. Our struggle to grow our businesses helps us to develop the muscle that we need to sustain our businesses. Together we can provide a powerful force and great resources to set up co-op opportunities with banks, corporations, and policymakers. As a group, we have the power to demand and command respect and to set a new standard locally, statewide and even nationwide, on behalf of African American women business owners.
According to the Center for Women’s Business Research, there were an estimated 414, 472 majority-owned, privately held firms owned by African American women in the U.S., employing nearly 254,000 people and generating 19.5 billion in sales. And African American women businesses are pacing as the fastest growing small business segment in the country. We are well on our way to tapping into a network that has been left sitting dormant for years and we plan to continue to pursue more opportunities for African American women business owners for years to come.
